About

“Santafish”?
Basically, “Santafish” is another name for Salmoneus (the creator of Sal’s Realm of RuneScape, if you didn’t already know). I love Santa Hats in RuneScape, and in fact they’re my favorite item in the game. I think that if I had a billion gp (currency in RuneScape), I’d buy up all of the Santa Hats in the game and hand them out to all of my forum members. As for the rest… I’d hand them out to newbies in the game (at the rate the price is increasing, it’s becoming harder and harder to buy a single hat!) and make some people’s day.
As for the “fish” part… well, look at my name: Salmoneus. Salmon! A Salmon is a fish in RuneScape (and in RL as well). Pit both “Santa” and “fish” together and you’ll get Santafish!
How’d This Site Start?
I’ll just talk about the santafish.org site for now, and I’ll keep it short. Awhile back, Dissentor, a member of the forum, presented me with the idea of a Podcast, which we decided to name the “Salcast.” It’s an mp3 file that includes news, interviews, jokes and more, and right now it’s just starting out.
I hosted the first issue on my server, and it was a big hit with all of the forum members. In the first day alone, several hundred people had downloaded the Salcast! Now of course, this was causing a lot of trouble with my server, making it overload and become unstable. This went on for 3-4 days, until the influx of people downloading it slowed down.
I decided after that, we needed either a) a new server; or b) a place to host the Salcast. Free hosts were out of the question, because we would need at least 100GB of bandwidth per month (to start). A dedicated server was out of the question as well, because it would be completely pointless hosting a single mp3 on a server of it’s own (not to mention that I’m not loaded with $). I looked around and came upon Dreamhost, who offered plenty of bandwidth and space for a very generous price. Plus, a free domain!
So, On May 12, 2006, I registered the santafish.org domain and opened up an account with Dreamhost. The Salcasts will now be hosted here, and I’ll just hope that everything goes well. ![]()
